Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology / Human Biology for Behavioral Clinicians:
45 CE credits / Course Fee: $750.
Set at the depth and instructional level of a three credit post-licensure course and provides 45 hours of CE credit. Intended for psychologists and other behavioral clinicians who have not had previous training in aspects of anatomy and physiology related to how the body and mind interact to control behavior and psychophysiological states. It meets BCIA’s requirements for having a course in A&P for certification. http://www.biof.com/onlinestore/behmedcourses/anatphys.asp
Behavioral Interventions for Pelvic Floor Disorders:
36 hours of CE credit, $750.
The course objective is to provide the depth of knowledge in pelvic area A&P, psychophysiology, biofeedback equipment, and training techniques which clinicians require to perform psycho-physiologically oriented assessments and biofeedback and other behaviorally based interventions for pelvic floor disorders. This information is crucial to effectively adding these techniques to a clinician’s practice. http://www.biof.com/onlinestore/behmedcourses/behintervpelv.asp
Pain Assessment and Intervention for Behavioral Practitioners:
45 CE credits / Course Fee: $750.
This course provides the information you need to be able to perform a reasonable assessment of patients with chronic and acute pain both on and off the ward, recognize when pain is not being appropriately or adequately ameliorated, and to be able to make or recommend interventions consistent with your clinical skills. www.biof.com/onlinestore/behmedcourses/painassessbeh.asp
Biological Basis of Behavior / Introduction to Psychophysiology:
45 CE credits / Course Fee: $750.
Set at the depth and instructional level of a three credit post-licensure course; it explores the manifold ways the brain and body work together to produce behavior and the cycle between behavior and physiology. The course begins with a description of the body’s organizational structure and genetics as related to behavior. The basic physiological ways information is received from the external and internal environments through a variety of sensors and then processed by the hormonal / nervous system are described. Typical psycho-physiological dysfunctions and interventions are also described. You should have taken undergraduate biology and psychology before taking this course. http://www.biof.com/onlinestore/behmedcourses/biolbasis.asp
Neuropsychophysiology: Nervous System Functions in Psychophysiology:
45 hours of CE credit, Course Fee $750. Prerequisites:
An undergraduate course in general biology. It is easier if you have had an introductory neurofeedback course as well. For purposes of this course, we consider neuropsychophysiology as the study of human behavior in its broadest terms. It incorporates the principles of neuroscience (neuro- and electro-physiology, neuroanatomy and cell and molecular biology) and neuropsychology (clinical neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, experimental and cognitive psychology). Recent advances in neuroimaging and psychopharmacology have added new and exciting dimensions to modern neuropsychophysiogy which previously once was regarded as mainly diagnostic in nature. Therefore, the main objective of this course will be to examine the scientific basis of these research areas as they relate to the fundamentals of human behavior. Recently published research papers are introduced into the course in order to extend the student’s views beyond the textual material. In addition, students are given the opportunity to present their research and/or clinical interests. The student will also achieve an understanding of the principles underlying the practice of EEG-biofeedback (EEG-BF) by studying the basic mechanisms of cerebral rhythmic activities, regional cerebral functions and their connectivities; and, the neuronal substrate responsible for self-regulation. www.biof.com/onlinestore/behmedcourses/neuropsych.asp
Hypnosis in Psychophysiology:
Psychophysiological Research Techniques:
45 Hours of CE Credit / Course Fee $750.
This course acquaints you with the basic elements of how read the scientific literature intelligently and how a psycho=physiologically oriented clinical research project is conducted from initiating the idea through presenting the results. The scientific method and its application to psychophysiological research and practice is emphasized. Students learn by watching audiovisual lectures provided on the course web site, reading assignments both from materials provided on the web site and a text, and interacting with their instructor via e-mail. www.biof.com/onlinestore/behmedcourses/resrchtech.asp
Introduction to Behavioral and Alternative Medicine:
45 CEs, Course Fee: $750.
Course is at level of a typical 3 credit post-licensure, introductory level course. The course is targeted to licensed / certified clinicians such as psychologists, counselors, physical therapists, social workers, nurses, and physicians as well as to graduate students. It will acquaint you with many of those Complimentary and alternative (C & A) practices, which form the core of “behavioral medicine” and are rapidly finding acceptance within the clinical community. It is also intended to help you learn to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the claims made by the proponents of these practices so you can more readily separate the real knowledge from the emotional advertising. www.biof.com/onlinestore/behmedcourses/introbehmed.asp
Biofeedback Applications for Neuromuscular Reeducation:
45 CEs, Course Fee: $750
This course is designed to teach assessment and biofeedback protocols for treatment of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders from a neuromuscular reeducation perspective, primarily using surface-recorded EMG. These protocols are based on motor learning principles and the neurophysiology of the disorders being treated. The therapeutic goals are those of physical rehabilitation: to increase muscle strength, enhance muscle relaxation, improve muscle coordination, decrease pain, and improve function during daily activities and work. The course content is taught using a clinical case study format. Protocols for assessment and treatment of a given diagnostic category, such as Bell’s Palsy, are presented in terms of a typical case. Readings are assigned to provide the basic neurophysiology and anatomy needed to understand and work effectively with that disorder. This course is designed for two different categories of students. (1) This course is appropriate for students who work from a psychology, counseling, behavioral science or education perspective and are interested in broadening their knowledge base and skills by learning about neuromuscular reeducation applications of biofeedback. (2) This course is also appropriate for those who work from a physical rehabilitation perspective, such as physical therapy or occupational therapy, and are interested in developing expertise in biofeedback procedures that are applicable to their clinical caseload. For both types of students, this course is intended to enhance the knowledge and skills of the clinician or educator who works within his or her legal scope of practice and licensure. http://www.biof.com/onlinestore/behmedcourses/NeuromuscularReeducation.asp
Ethics for Biofeedback Providers:
5 CEUs, Course Fee: $150 This 5 CE, distance based course is intended for clinicians, educators, and coaches who have incorporated or are interested in incorporating biofeedback (including neurofeedback) intervention and psychophysiological assessment techniques into their practices. It emphasizes issues in ethics and professional conduct which are of special interest to clinicians incorporating biofeedback – many of which are not clearly spelled out in typical codes of ethics and conduct promulgated by clinical organizations. http://www.biof.com/onlinestore/behmedcourses/BiofeedbackProvidersEthics.asp
